Village trustees have expressed support for a proposed Walgreens store despite mounting opposition from nearby residents.

Homeowners packed Tuesday’s Village Board meeting to show displeasure over the store, planned for a site near 171st Street and 84th Avenue.

The 14,000-square-foot Walgreens, with 6,000 square feet of additional retail space on a nearby lot, would replace a Walgreens at 171st Street and 80th Avenue and include a drive-through pharmacy window.

Residents complained about the potential traffic and nuisances such as bright lighting, and said they want to keep the neighborhood residential.

Trustees will likely approve the project next month.

Trustee David Seaman said that the developer has made design and traffic accommodations to residents and that the village does not want to lose a tax-generating business.

“I don’t think a business use at this intersection is unreasonable,” he said.
