Middleweight champ Jermain Taylor, who faces Winky Wright on Saturday night at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, had at least one steady diet in training camp. Trainer Emanuel Steward fed him a Taylor-made routine of sparring partners emulating the style of southpaw Wright. “I didn’t know there were that many left-handers in the world,” Taylor quipped. The 27-year-old titleholder vaulted into prominence by twice defeating ex-middleweight champ Bernard Hopkins, who had defended his title a record 20 times. Taylor’s confidence in anticipating his showdown against Wright, a slick defensive boxer, was boosted by Hopkins’ victory over Antonio Tarver to take his light heavyweight title last Saturday.
