A planner who played a key role in creating Will County’s award-winning land-use development plan, has been tapped to direct the Regional Planning Board’s planning efforts for the six-county area. Tyson “Ty” Warner is scheduled to start in July.
Warner initially will report to Ron Thomas, currently the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission’s executive director. The Regional Planning Board reflects a merger of it and the Chicago Area Transportation Study, under Executive Director Randy Blankenhorn, a veteran state transportation official.

Warner leaves the post of planning division director in the Will County Land Use Department, which he joined in 1992.
During that time he played a key role in developing the Will County Land Resource Management Plan, which garnered the Metropolitan Planning Council’s 2002 Burnham Award.
“Ty had everything we were looking for to fill the position,” Thomas said.
Blankenhorn agreed, noting Warner’s “significant” role in developing Will County’s transportation and land-use policies matches well with the Regional Planning Board’s needs.
Blankenhorn noted that Warner’s predecessor, Sam Santell, who died in April, came into the position from Kane County’s planning department.
In his new role with the Regional Planning Board, Warner will build on NIPC’s award-winning 2040 Regional Framework Plan crafted under Santell.
