Roughly two months after breaking ground for the Adult Detention Facility expansion, county officials are ordering structural steel from the mills.

Public Building Commission Executive Director Mel Rull said early ordering is necessary to get the product in by 2008.

Early ordering also will head off “significant increases” in steel prices, Rull told the County Board’s Capital Improvements Committee on Tuesday.

Rull said the jail expansion could be completed by late 2008 or early the following year, depending on weather conditions.
