You can think of a zillion things you would buy if you just had the money, right? But it’s hard for most kids to come up with cash. In fact, 42 percent of kids age 6 to 17 don’t receive an allowance, according to a recent study by research firm Yankelovich.

Feeling green with allowance envy? Keep in mind that 83 percent of kids who get an allowance do not receive more than $20 per week, the survey found.

But that 20 bucks might not go far: Kids ages 13 to 15 spend an average of $15 per week, according to a 2006 survey by the Charles Schwab Foundation.
