WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD:

Well, at least David Chase is consistent. The “Sopranos” creator ended his slow-going penultimate season Sunday night without closure. (And with, oddly, a Christmas episode.) Here, the big unanswered questions:

1. Will there be a war between the New Jersey and the New York families?

Unclear. New York acting boss Phil whacked Tony’s gay captain, Vito, then Tony’s guys secretly offed one of Phil’s and, Sunday night, set fire to a Brooklyn hangout. But at the end of the season finale, with Phil lying in a hospital bed after suffering a heart attack, Tony seemed eager to make peace.

2. Will Christopher ever sober up?

Doubtful. After a dry stint, a newly married Christopher is now dating and smoking meth with real estate agent and fellow AA’er Julianna, much to a lustful Tony’s chagrin.

3. Will Carmela ever find out the truth about Adriana?

We hope so. But Sunday night Tony steered Carmela away from the Adriana mystery by finally helping her get back the spec house.

4. Will Dr. Melfi and Tony ever have a breakthrough?

At this point, who cares? Though the season started with Tony’s near-death experience, the doc’s role these days is superfluous at best.

5. Will the final eight episodes of “The Sopranos,” which are set to air next year, make up for this meandering season?

At the risk of looking the fool in 2007, we’ve got to believe Chase knows what he’s doing.
