Dow Chemical could be the first corporate participant in the Forest Preserve District’s fledgling sponsorship and donation program.
Finance committee members Wednesday unanimously endorsed Dow’s offer of $135,000 to help cover the cost of constructing two picnic shelters on the former Moose Island, now named McKinley Woods Preserve, near Channahon. The money would be paid over 3 years, said District Executive Director Michael Pasteris.

Responding to committee member John Anderson (D-Monee), Pasteris said formal recognition of the Dow contribution has yet to be worked out.
“I would never suggest we name a forest preserve `Dow Chemical,'” he said. A plaque is more likely.
Both shelters would be erected in Kerry Sheridan Grove, named after District President Kerry Sheridan, a Republican whose County Board district encompasses much of southwestern Will County.
The contribution must be reviewed and approved by the full board, which will meet June 8. Pasteris said Dow had been identified as a potential donor by IEG, a Chicago-based consulting firm that laid the groundwork for the district’s sponsorship and donation program.
