The revelation that the Chinese still were after Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland)–a major plot twist in the show’s closing minutes–was just one of many surprises in Monday’s gripping 2-hour finale. And there was a major loose end that wasn’t tied up: President Charles Logan (Gregory Itzin), who was taken into custody for his evil actions, was conspiring in recent episodes with an unnamed bad guy.
In apprehending the president, Bauer had a major assist from the show’s fictional first lady, who was gloriously played by Jean Smart.
Smart, as Logan’s wife, Martha, wangled a confession out of him in an airplane hangar. Unbeknownst to Logan, Bauer had fitted Logan with a wireless microphone that recorded the confession.
