For older Cub fans watching the Class AA state basketball telecast last Saturday evening–and who might have been wondering–the answer is yes. That Eric Hobbie kid from Vandalia who won the slam-dunk contest before the state title game is the grandson of former Cubs right-hander Glen Hobbie, a two-time 16-game winner (1959, 1960) on the North Side. Providing confirmation was Glen Hobbie Jr., who was in Peoria for the event. His son, a 6-6 junior, does more than dunk: He averaged 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds and shot 64 percent from the field to help Vandalia go 25-7.
