Residents will get a chance Thursday to tell city officials how they want downtown redevelopment to proceed.
The Community Development Department will hold two focus groups–one for business owners and one for residents–to hear views on how the city should change the downtown business district, including Island Park and the Riverwalk. S.B. Friedman and Co., a Chicago development consulting firm, will moderate the focus group discussions. The city hired the firm last fall to produce a market study for downtown redevelopment.
Batavia’s current downtown master plan includes realigning Illinois Highway 25 north and south of Wilson Street; adding parks and bike trails; installing wireless Internet access points; and making the 170-year-old downtown area more pedestrian-friendly. Residents’ ideas will be incorporated into the Friedman study, expected to come out later this spring.
