A hot real estate market has turned into disposable cash for two Northwest Side schools.
As part of a deal to build the 175-unit Shoemaker Lofts at Belmont Avenue and Pulaski Road, the developer Dubin Residential promised a pair of $20,000 donations whose recipients would be chosen by 31st Ward Ald. Ray Suarez.
Suarez dropped off the first $20,000 check Wednesday at North Grand High School, 4338 W. Wabansia Ave. On Friday, he brought the other to Kelvyn Park, 4343 W. Wrightwood Ave.
“These schools need this and more,” Suarez said.
The schools will decide how to spend the money, Suarez said.
