Rhett Miller
“THE BELIEVER”
More Top Picks Hammers
RATING: 3 SOUND LEVELS
Old 97’s fans will undoubtedly buy, but not necessarily embrace, this solo disc from frontman Miller. It’s rowdier than Miller’s 2002 “The Instigator,” but the rave-ups seem a tad forced, lacking the firepower of the band. The hooks and one-liners that mark Miller’s best work are present.
That the highlight, an acoustic version of “Question,” is an Old 97’s song will confirm the belief of die-hards that Miller should stick with his bandmates, but “The Believer” ain’t half bad.
