” ‘Freedomland’ is such a heavy movie with so much on the brain–race, class, prejudice, love, sin, God–that it demands the viewer’s attention. It makes this demand loudly, vociferously, in long, talky scenes populated by big-gun actors cocked to blow us away. It’s deep, man. … And I couldn’t hardly wait for it to end.”
