After a budget deficit, attendance crisis and months of renovations that have kept its exhibits closed, the Chicago Historical Society hopes its grand new name — the Chicago History Museum — will help draw crowds when its galleries reopen Sept. 30. The Tempo Subcommittee on Moneymaking Monikers agrees that “Society” had to go, but we would have preferred something more dramatic — to get those turnstiles humming:
– Six Flags Over Chicago History
– Chicago Historical Museum & Bar
– Marshall Field’s
– The Gangster Museum
– Future Site of Oprah’s Artifacts
– U.S. Cellular Museum
– The Louvre
– The Old Playboy Mansion (or, the New Playboy Mansion)
– Sex, Money and Corruption in Chicago
– Chicago Hysterical Museum!
– Smoking Permitted
– The Kanye West Runner-Up Hall of Fame
– The Kukla, Garfield, Geraldine & Other Dead Chicago Puppets Museum
– Da Booty (as in plunder taken from an enemy in time of war; goods or property seized by force or piracy; a valuable prize, award or gain. Whatever were you thinking?)
