Classically trained pianist Kristin Hoffman summons moody, Tori Amos-style atmospherics on “Silhouette,” and her anguished, yet reflective vocal style isn’t far removed from some of Amos’ downbeat tunes. “Light” practically glistens with poignant tears, and “Bittersweet” builds into a yearning chorus with hooky “whoa, whoa” backing vocals. Despite the fact that Hoffmann hasn’t quite settled on how she wants her music to sound, “Real” is a persuasive effort from a performer who’s still growing into her songs.
