No, it’s not the eggnog.

That is a large penguin in a White Sox uniform in downtown Hinsdale.

Made by the same company that intrigued Chicago tourists with its Cows on Parade years back, the Hinsdale penguins are designed to attract visitors to shops and restaurants downtown.

This is the second year Hinsdale has had some type of interesting fiberglass visitors on its streets.

Last year, 25 snowmen dotted the Hinsdale landscape. This year the village decided on 27 penguins–some dressed in Hawaiian shirts, some elegantly painted with birds.

Each penguin is sponsored by a company or organization that had the extra duty of decorating and naming the penguins.

Penguins such as Pinot the Penguin, Chilly Oats, Poppy, Puffy, Splash and friends made their debut Nov. 25 and will be around until Jan. 15.

Then it’s off to the zoo.

After the promotion, the penguins will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Brookfield Zoo.
