Village officials are moving into the final design stage of an extension and widening of 183rd Street.
The major thoroughfare now dead-ends at railroad tracks west of 80th Avenue within a busy light industrial and office district. The project calls for adding a railroad crossing and extending the road west to La Grange Road.
The project had been opposed by homeowners who live along a stretch of 183rd near La Grange, but no residents attended Tuesday night’s board meeting to object.
Trustee Michael Bettenhausen said meetings with homeowners, particularly those from Tinley Gardens who would lose a portion of their parkways to the project, have allayed fears about the project.
“We’ve worked pretty well through this” with the homeowners, he said.
Bettenhausen said construction could begin in a year after final engineering, which would include negotiating with property owners for obtaining strips of land for the project.
