To see more than 400 pupils jumping up and down and cheering at Lake Forest Country Day School last week, it might have seemed like Santa showed up early.

Instead, it was the installation of the final roof truss on the school’s new building that got them so excited. They watched the event live on a jumbo screen.

“The whole spirit of the school right now is about growth and celebrating this new building,” said Michael Robinson, head of the school. “They have literally watched it rise up out of the ground.”

In the works for about five years, the building expansion, costing more than $18 million, will include16 new classrooms, three art studios and a library and media center in 65,000 square feet.

The building is expected to be complete in fall 2006 in time for pupils’ return to classes.
