Travelers on 191st Street in Mokena got a boost this week.

The construction clutter that had made the roadway a sea of orange cones and cautionary signs is finally gone, village engineer Paul Pearson said.

Business owners along 191st Street west of La Grange Road and drivers who use the roadway regularly have been dealing with “under-construction” conditions since the Will County project to widen it to four lanes started in August 2004, and village officials have been dealing with a steady stream of complaints.

All four lanes are open now, but the traffic signal at Wolf Road needs to be finished, Pearson said.

The Public Works Department will do some patching, and the road will be restriped if temperatures are adequate, he said.

The road is still a little dark, but more streetlights will be installed next year, Village Administrator John Downs said.
