Orland Elementary School District 135 Supt. Linda Anast-May is leaving her post at the end of the school year.
Anast-May submitted her resignation to the school board in a Monday night meeting, effective when her initial 3-year contract expires June 30, although the board had earlier approved a two-year extension.
Anast-May said she wants to spend more time with her family.
“I am not being fired, nor has anyone asked me to leave,” she said.
Four board members initially voted against accepting Anast-May’s resignation, but board President John Paul switched his vote, reversing the 4-3 vote.
“I personally prefer that you would consider and stay until 2008, but I respect your decision,” said board member Donna Teschke, who voted against accepting the resignation.
In Anast-May’s tenure, the district balanced its budget, won voter approval to increase the district’s education fund and began construction projects at three district schools.
