Mayor Steven Landek said the village is nearing a redevelopment deal to bring either a movie theater or a big-box retailer to the village.
The development would replace the long-vacant Omni store in the Bridgeview Court Shopping Center near West 79th Street and South Harlem Avenue.

The village recently bought the store for $4.3 million.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to locate a buyer the first week of January,” Landek said during Wednesday night’s Village Board meeting.
He said his preference would be to bring in a movie theater as the village has been without one since the closing of the Harlem Corners Theater.
Landek said the village is looking only to break even on the sale of the Omni store, considering the sales and property tax revenue the village will realize with the new development.
“This is going to be a multi-million project,” he said. “You can bet they will invest $40 million in our community.”
