A lifelong resident and current Plan Commission chairman will be appointed to fill the vacant seat on the Naperville City Council left by Councilman David Fiore, who resigned last month.

The council in a closed session Wednesday agreed to appoint Grant Wehrli, 37, to the position. The field of applicants was narrowed this week from 14 to four people. The other candidates were Judy Brodhead, Karl Fry, and Michael Larmoni. Wehrli is a regional manager for Bosch.

Mayor George Pradel said making the decision was difficult but went smoothly.

“He has lots of resources in Naperville and has excessive energy,” Pradel said of Wehrli.

“[Wehrli] has a solid command of what’s going on in the city,” Fiore said of his replacement.

The council directed staff to prepare the ordinance for Wehrli’s appointment and will formally vote on the appointment at its Dec. 20 meeting.
