Trustee Paul Hoefert this week suggested the village board consider a smoking ban next year. “I think we need to at least have this discussion and see if it’s something we should consider in this community,” Hoefert said.
The Chicago City Council passed an ordinance Wednesday barring smoking in public places. Restaurant bars and taverns have 2 1/2 years to comply.
In other news, Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a law Tuesday extending the life and boundaries of Mt. Prospect’s tax-increment financing district.
The village extended the district to include land at Busse Avenue and Emerson Street and at Illinois Highway 83 and Central Road, said Finance Director David Erb.
