The Elburn Village Board next week will discuss approving a revised plan for the Meadows II senior citizen complex that would let seniors buy, rather than rent, their apartments. Residents of Meadows I age-restricted apartment complex rent their units.
“We all feel there’s a need for this, since the apartments in Phase I are always full,” said Trustee Jeff Metcalf. “There’s a big demand for senior housing from people who were born in Elburn, live in Elburn and want to retire in Elburn.”
The new building would contain 61 one- and two-bedroom condominiums, up from the 46 units originally proposed by developer Dan Nagle, to allow space for an underground parking lot beneath the building. The condominiums are expected to sell for $130,000 to $170,000.
Other senior-friendly amenities planned include two elevators, several common patios and recreation rooms, a separate furnace in each unit and strobe lights connected to smoke alarms to alert hard-of-hearing residents of emergencies.
