White Sox fan-in-chief Mayor Richard Daley applauded Paul Konerko’s re-signing Thursday but not without weighing in on the issue of rich athletes and responsibility. “Let’s put everything in perspective,” Daley said. “It is $60 million over five years. It’s amazing, isn’t it? Where are our priorities?” Professional sports have created many multi-millionaires, but “I wonder what is their commitment to . . . giving back to the rest of the community,” he said. “We expect the business community to be socially conscious. Why can’t we have athletes, sports people, be socially conscious?” What should wealthy players do? “Get involved in a program dealing with education. Adopt a school.” While he was on a roll, Daley couldn’t resist commenting on the big bucks paid to college coaches, especially when “compared to teachers. You see the priorities in colleges,” he said.
