Shani Davis won his fourth straight 1,000-meter race and the U.S. speedskating team swept the event in World Cup competition Sunday in West Allis, Wis.
Davis, a favorite in multiple events in long- and short-track for the 2006 Winter Olympics in February, won in 1 minute 8.43 seconds. Americans Joey Cheek and Casey FitzRandolph took silver and bronze respectively.

– Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal won the men’s season-opening super-giant slalom in Lake Louise, Alberta, for his first career World Cup victory, taking advantage of a big slip by Bode Miller.
Miller appeared on his way to a repeat in the super-G, leading by .04 seconds at the top interval. But he fell on his right hip and skidded before making a remarkable recovery, bouncing up and quickly getting back into his tuck. But the mistake left him in 18th place.
