Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When it comes to toys, kids can be fickle. One day, they love Buzz Lightyear. The next day, only Dora will do. If you find yourself over-spending on playthings to keep up with your kids’ ever-changing whims, try a different kind of shopping on toyswap.com. The month-old Web site lets you swap your used toys with those of others at a cost of just $1 per swap.

Orland Park resident and mother of two Michelle Maxia dreamed up the site, on which registered swappers post information and photos of their unwanted toys–which range from Barbies to remote-control cars to puzzles to rubber Godzilla figurines–and, conversely, “shop” other listings. Maxia facilitates any swaps that are initiated, and shipping is up to the swappers.

Just need to empty the toy chest? There’s a donations section, in which you can post listings of items you’d simply like to give away to needy organizations.
