Last season Chris Duhon was a pleasant surprise in making the Bulls as a second-round draft pick and then earning a starting role.

The 6-foot-1-inch guard still is pulling off surprises. Lately, he has done so with his shooting.

“He certainly has made his share of big shots,” coach Scott Skiles said.

Duhon went 6 of 11 for 18 points against the Spurs on Friday, five days after going 7 of 12 against the Lakers. He hit 60 percent of his three-pointers in those games. Saturday, he went 5 of 8 for 11 points with six assists.

He gives opponents usually intent on stopping Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon someone else to think about.

“You have to pick your poison a little bit out there,” Skiles said. “`Du’ benefits from some of the attention the other guys get. He also has shown the ability to not be afraid to step up and make critical shots.”

Duhon also has become more vocal, evident in his confrontation with the Spurs’ Robert Horry on Friday. Horry, nine inches taller and about 50 pounds heavier than Duhon, angered Duhon when he pushed Luol Deng into the basket support.

“If we were to fight, I’d probably lose nine out of 10 times,” Duhon said, “but I’m always going to stand up for my teammates in any situation.”
