Friends waited outside the 49ers’ locker room for Mike Singletary and offered hugs on a day he could use them. Though Singletary will not take fond memories from his team’s 17-9 loss to the Bears on a blustery day at Soldier Field, making a rare visit to Chicago perked him up. “It’s always great to be back in Chicago,” he said. Singletary, assistant head coach/linebackers coach for the 49ers, said he checked in with former teammate Ron Rivera, now the Bears’ defensive coordinator. “I told him I was proud of him,” Singletary said. The deeply religious Singletary, a Bear from 1981-92, has long hoped to become a Bears coach. “I know now there’s a reason why I’m not here,” said Singletary, who said the Lord put him in San Francisco to keep learning. “It’s a journey.”
