Before last year’s game against Ohio State, linebacker Adam Kadela was in a bad mood. The Dublin, Ohio, native was out for the season with a broken leg and would miss the game against his hometown team. What’s more, he missed the Wildcats’ 33-27 upset victory at Ryan Field.
But linebackers coach Pat Fitzgerald spoke up.
“He said, `Try missing the Rose Bowl,'” Kadela said.
Fitzgerald missed the finale of the Wildcats’ Cinderella 1995 season with a broken leg after being named national defensive player of the year.
“That made me realize I had to get over it,” Kadela said. . . .
Quarterback Brett Basanez is one of 15 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award. . . . Safety Herschel Henderson left practice early with a sore lower back. . . . Safety Brendan Smith returned to practice and is on target to return for the season finale Nov. 19 at Illinois.
