A new Spanish-language magazine called Siempre Mujer–which translates to “always a woman”–debuted nationally in September targeting young Hispanic female immigrants.
The bimonthly publication seeks to fill “a huge void” in serving these women, said Johanna Buchholtz-Torres, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, at the Chicago launch party Nov. 1 at Vermilion restaurant on West Hubbard Street.
The magazine aims to give its readers practical information on such topics as fashion, home decor and personal finance, Buchholtz-Torres said.
“This woman is at a point in her life where she is empowered by a job,” Buchholtz-Torres said. “She wants to know how she can really educate herself to make important decisions at home.”

The target audience is the estimated 5 million Hispanic women ages 18 to 49 who migrated here within the last 10 years, have less than a high school education and earn about $30,000 a year.
Actress Giselle Blondet, a former hostess of the Spanish-language television talk show Despierta America, is on the November/December cover.
Des Moines-based Meredith Corp. is the publisher. Siempre Mujer sells for $2.99 an issue and is available at newsstands or by subscription on the Web site (www.siempremujer.com).
