Neil Young “Prairie Wind”

Recorded in Nashville as Young was being treated for a brain aneurism, this disc shows the singer at his gentlest and most accessible–not unlike 1992’s “Harvest Moon,” his last great record. Opening with the lovely “The Painter,” the disc finds Young rocking-chair comfortable and nostalgic, singing about family (“Far From Home”), the changing world (“No Wonder”) and paying tribute to Elvis (“He was the King”).

Best track: “Far From Home,” which looks back at a world that once existed, was clearly written with death on Young’s mind.
