A security guard captured a man who stole a tire from a parked car on Oct. 19, a report said.
The security guard noticed the offender and his female companion driving around a parking lot on the 8000 block of West Higgins Road. The security guard told police he became alarmed when he saw that the offenders were peering into parked cars in the lot, the report said.
The security guard then saw the male offender remove a spare tire from one of the cars and put it in the trunk of his own car.
The security guard captured the male offender, but the female offender drove off with the tire, according to the report.
UNWELCOME GUEST: A 42-year-old man’s car was almost stolen Oct. 16 by an offender who claimed he thought the car was his, a report said.
The victim had left a house party on the 5000 block of North Newland Avenue when he noticed the offender sitting behind the wheel of his car. When the victim confronted the offender, the offender said he had mistaken the car for his own and then fled the scene.
The victim later noticed his wallet was missing and found his driver’s license on the floor of the car.
The victim’s friends told police that after hearing a description of the offender, they suspected he also was at the party, the report said.
Police are investigating the lead, the report said.

CAR CHASE: Two offenders chased a 20-year-old man after they had a verbal altercation on Oct. 1, a report said.
The victim was in his car at a red light when the offenders pulled up next to him.
One of the offenders asked the victim, “What you is?” When the victim responded, “Nothing,” the offender got out of his car carrying a tire iron, which he swung at the victim’s car.
The victim drove away from the scene, and the offenders chased him until he was able to lose them on the 5000 block of West Waveland Avenue. At one point during the chase, the offenders pulled up next to the victim and pointed a gun at him, the report said.
Police searched the area with the victim, and they found the offenders, who were arrested.
MAN ATTACKED: A group of five offenders beat 0an 18-year-old man on Oct. 3 after the victim picked up his girlfriend on the 7000 block of West Talcott Avenue, a report said.
The victim tried to drive his car out of a parking lot when a car full of offenders blocked his exit. The offenders pulled the victim from his car. One of the offenders threw a rock at the victim, striking him in the head. The same offender then hit the victim in the head with a pipe while the four other offenders punched and kicked him. The victim was treated at a hospital and released, the report said.
WALLET NABBED: A 30-year-old woman’s wallet was stolen Oct. 22 after she left it in her car, a report said.
The car was parked on the 6000 block of West Waveland Avenue. When the victim returned to her car, she noticed that she had left the doors unlocked and that the wallet was gone.
