Northern Illinois tailback Garrett Wolfe never hesitated to credit his offensive line for his string of plus-100-yard running games. Ditto A.J. Harris, whose rushing sparked the Huskies when he replaced Wolfe on several occasions.

But with both of them sidelined by injuries Saturday, seldom-used Adrian Davis stepped up, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 252 yards as NIU won 34-3 at Kent State.

Davis’ yardage was the seventh highest in Division I-A this season.

Davis, to nobody’s surprise, credited his blockers for the flashy stats in his first start.

This is further evidence that NIU’s success on offense hinges on the blocking of center Brian Van Acker, guards Ben Lueck and Jake Ebenhoch, tackles Doug Free and Jon Brost and tight end Jake Nordin.

Wolfe’s sprained knee will keep him out of Saturday’s game against Ball State.

Harris was listed as questionable due to his sore shoulder. Davis will start.
