Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate
“In the Heart of the Moon”
Mali’s Ali Farka Toure has long been an easy entree into African music, given the close similarity of his guitar playing with American blues. “Moon,” however, teams Toure with Toumani Diabate, king of the kora, and the discs shows off both of their strengths. The 12 easygoing tracks were recorded in just three afternoon jam sessions, but these two sound like they’ve been playing together for years.
Best track: “Mamadou Boutiquier” sweetly showcases their virtuosity.
