“Battleship Potemkin”
Of all the things the Pet Shop Boys might have done, a live score to Sergei Eisenstein’s 1925 silent film masterpiece “Battleship Potemkin” probably falls somewhere behind a “Plays the Songs of Toby Keith” disc. But Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant are savvy, and their mix of orchestral swoons, swelling male choirs and funky beats turns out to be pretty good. If the music doesn’t match the imagery of the film, which depicts an uprising among sailors in the Black Sea fleet, that’s no doubt part of the ever post-modern duo’s intent.
