player ready...Batavia police Chief Dennis Anderson is retiring in November after 36 years on the force, the last seven as top cop.
Anderson, whose last day is Nov. 4, will start a new job as traffic safety liaison officer for the Illinois Department of Transportation, awarding grants to local police departments throughout the state and teaching officers how to implement statewide traffic safety programs.
“I wasn’t job-hunting [when he saw the position advertised], but this sounded like a position I would enjoy. Besides, after 36 years as a Batavia police officer, it’s time to do something different,” said Anderson.
Important cases in Anderson’s tenure as police chief include the 2000 shooting of Officer Chris Graver, who survived and killed his assailant; and the kidnapping and murder of resident Linda Duchaine in 2004. “That was a very intense investigation,” he said. “I’m very proud of the officers who investigated that case.”
