RECAP: Released in the U.S. shortened and dubbed, this French throwback to ’70s American horror films–now uncut and in its original language–gets a modern twist, one that unfortunately makes absolutely no sense.
BEST EXTRA: “Giannetto De Rossi: The Truth, the Magic and the Madness” gets behind the scenes of the bloody makeup effects.
SECRETS REVEALED: The shoot was often bitterly cold, which is what actress Maiwenn Le Besco claims caused her to cry so hard in the film’s climactic scenes.
FEATURE TO SKIP: The filmmaker’s introduction is little more than that–more or less, “Hey, welcome to my movie.”
TRIVIA: In England, the film was titled “Switchblade Romance,” which makes some sense.
IF YOU LIKED THIS, TRY: “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” often imitated, never replicated.
