Rev. Michael Pfleger is an activist and sometime controversial Catholic priest who has campaigned against billboards advertising liquor and tobacco products and stores that sell drug paraphernalia on Chicago’s South Side.
Last week, he traveled to the northwest suburbs, where he took aim at “Desperate Housewives.” He doesn’t like it that the hit television show is popular among Christians.
“It bothers me,” Pfleger told about 300 people at Holy Family Catholic Parish in Inverness. “If more people watch stuff like that, it becomes OK in society.”
He was referring to the show’s frequent themes: murder, adultery, lying and promiscuity.
Holy Family’s pastor, Rev. Pat Brennan, invited Pfleger, a childhood pal, to talk at the church last week.
And speak Pfleger did, also discussing classism, racism and poverty. Pfleger, of St. Sabina in Chicago, also encouraged Christians to use what they learn in church to help others.
