If there were a cinematic inspiration to this week’s package of stories in the men’s style issue, it would be the 1997 movie “As Good As It Gets,” in which a neurotic Jack Nicholson, in an effort to explain Helen Hunt’s captivating effect on him, confides: “You make me want to be a better man.”
It is true, of course, that friends, children, lovers, all possess the power to exert this influence. Yet one might also surmise that in this stiff-upper-lip world, men would need a little coaxing-and coaching-in the self-improvement department. That’s where we hope this week’s issue of the Magazine comes in handy.
