Blackhawks rookie defenseman Brent Seabrook should have clipped out the NHL scoring statistics Saturday and put them in a scrapbook.

It’s not every day someone playing two career NHL games can lead the league in scoring.

Seabrook sat at the top of the NHL scoring list with five points, all assists. He had one more point than New York Rangers sniper Jaromir Jagr.

Seabrook tied a Hawks rookie record with four assists Friday to recover from a jittery opening night Wednesday.

“The coaches came up to me and said to remain calm and just play my game,” Seabrook said. “All the players were helping me out.”

Seabrook isn’t the only Hawks rookie making an early impact. Fellow defenseman Duncan Keith is leading the team in ice time at just more than 24 minutes a game.

With Adrian Aucoin injured early Friday, Keith played 27:29 against San Jose’s top forwards.

“I’m confident playing the other team’s top players,” Keith said. “Obviously, it’s a step up now. You just have to play to your strengths.”
