Naperville’s Riverwalk has traditionally been overseen by an appointed commission of volunteers. But the volunteers’ spare time is limited, so the city has decided that a part-time Riverwalk coordinator would be better suited to handle the day-to-day phone calls and administrative tasks.
The position is expected to pay $29,500 and will be an employee of the city. The salary will likely come from the city’s culture fund.
An ad hoc committee had been formed to evaluate the position, and the City Council had considered splitting the cost of the employee with the Naperville Park District, which handles maintenance of the Riverwalk. But the Park District said it could only take on part of the duties the position entails and, as a result, the council opted for the city to hire the employee.
City staff is expected to come back to the council with ordinances for final review of the position.
