So I had something really, really nice happen to me the other night. Nice things don’t happen to me very often, so this is definitely worth sharing.
My cousin called and asked me if I wanted to go to Wednesday night’s White Sox playoff game.
Um, yeah, hang on, let me check the schedule. I’m putting WD-40 on my Stanley Cup tabletop hockey rods and my Mike Ditka Super Bowl sweater, but I guess those things can wait.
I was there in a heartbeat with my little portable TV. And while I had never been to a baseball playoff game before, this one blew me away. When it comes to the White Sox and their fans, sometimes it’s really hard to figure out what all of the griping is about.
Because what I saw was 40,000-plus screaming, enthusiastic, passionate, knowledgeable and wonderful fans thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Granted, it helped that the White Sox won 5-4, but bear with me on this one. The energy was so awesome, and the ballpark looked fantastic. It was a sight to behold.
U.S. Cellular Field is comfortable with fantastic amenities and surrounding neighborhoods that are shaping up. What I am saying is a great young pitching staff plus a solid organization multiplied by a World Series title equals the end of the Cubs owning this town. Book it.
Wait a minute, I’m being way too positive here. Maybe that’s the playoff atmosphere I’m breathing. Remind me to see a shrink.

Gotta get some angst back, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than to think about the Bulls and Eddy Curry.
See ya, Eddy. Wait until Larry Brown gets a look at your defense and rebounding, my friend. The Knicks’ coach is going to make Scott Skiles seem like a wimpy substitute teacher who can’t control the class. Good luck and say “hello” to Jamal Crawford for us. We really miss him.
Not that we got anything in return. Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and Jermaine Jackson? I’d rather have Tito Jackson. As for Thomas, he’s just what we need–another underachieving big man.
Nice start to training camp, fellas. Give me some aspirin.
