Glenbard Township High School District 87 parents got an earful of laughter recently from Greg Risberg, who offered them a light-hearted survival kit on raising and communicating with teenagers.

Risberg’s talk at Glenbard West was the first in a series of educational sessions for parents sponsored by Glenbard West CARES, the school’s parent-teacher organization.

Laugh 24 times per day and get 12 hugs per day, the Elmhurst-based motivational speaker told the audience to help them put things in perspective, especially when teenagers drive them crazy.

Risberg used volunteers from the audience to demonstrate communication. One mom, Dee Thompson, stepped forward to “model” seven basic ways to hug someone. She said his words were heartfelt.
