Kimi Raikkonen, driving for McLaren, won the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul for his fifth victory of the season. Raikkonen earned two points more than second-place finisher Fernando Alonso, who leads the standings by 24 points with five races to go. Seven-time series champion Michael Schumacher, who started 19th on the 20-car grid, had mechanical problems all day and finished 32 of 58 laps.
– Part-time driver “Hot” Rod Fuller upset defending series champion Tony Schumacher in the NHRA Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, winning the Top Fuel final with a quarter-mile run of 4.612 seconds at 313.07 m.p.h.
– Former Thornton basketball coach Rocky Hill, who led the Wildcats to state titles in 1995-96, is expected to be named Monday as the coach at Julian. In those two seasons, Thornton had a record of 61-5.

– Northwestern football coach Randy Walker canceled the final two days of workouts in Kenosha. The Wildcats instead will work out Monday and Tuesday in Evanston.
