Beautiful Jim Key: The Lost History of a Horse and a Man Who Changed the World
By Mim Eichler Rivas
Morrow, 334 pages, $25.95
Seabiscuit couldn’t add numbers, spell words or feign illness like Beautiful Jim Key, a popular equine entertainer of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. This is a winsome tale about Jim and his trainer–Dr. William Key, a former slave, inventor and veterinarian–who broke attendance records as they circled the nation from their base in Tennessee.
