player ready...Festival lovers searching for a community-oriented celebration this weekend can head to Fiesta del Sol, an alcohol- and tobacco-free event being held for the 33rd year.
The free party, sponsored by the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, will have recreational events, live music, family activities, carnival rides, Mexican food and drinks, sports tournaments and hand-crafted art.
A college fair will be held to encourage youth literacy and education, and sponsors for college scholarships will be recruited. Last year, 47 scholarships were awarded, organizers said.
Also, the Alivio Medical Center will promote its Keeping Healthy campaign.
The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday on West Cermak Road, between Throop and Morgan Streets.
