Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This summer’s offered no shortage of spots willing to accommodate your doggie-dining needs. South Water Kitchen, Chief O’Neill’s and Scoozi all offer a special night for your pooch to nibble at your feet while you nosh. But what about those of us who like to drink? Good news: Phil & Lou’s is hosting an alfresco, dog-friendly wine-tasting event, courtesy of Napa’s Esser Wines. The guest of honor is Esser’s “chairman of the board,” Ludwig, a 2-year-old short-haired daschund. OK, so Ludwig’s title may just be honorific; his owner, Manfred Esser, who will also be on hand, is the president and proprietor of the label, so we suppose he can appoint whomever he wants. In addition to shaking paws with the canine and human execs, you can sample Esser’s highly regarded wine portfolio, which includes a pinot noir, cab, chardonnay and merlot, each of which will be paired with dishes from Phil & Lou’s kitchen. Treats will be available for the dogs, though they’ll have to pair them with plain old water. 6 p.m. Thursday. $50. Reservations required. 1124 W. Madison St. 312-455-0070.
