Gov. Rod Blagojevich took matters into his own hands last week when the Great Seal of the State of Illinois fell to the floor.

Standing to the side of a lectern following a bill signing in the Little Village neighborhood, Blagojevich noticed as the seal, which had been held up with Velcro, dropped to the floor.

As speakers answered questions from reporters, Blagojevich dashed in front of the lectern and picked up the lightweight object, which is placed on nearly every lectern the governor uses at public events.

The seal features an eagle holding a ribbon that reads, “State Sovereignty, National Union.”

The governor then slapped the seal back on the lectern, where it stuck crookedly on the podium for about a minute before dropping to the floor once again.

At that point, Blagojevich picked the thing up and gave it to his spokeswoman.
