Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

So you think you know something about scarfing down a pizza, huh? We dare say you’re not even in the same league as the iron stomachs you’ll see Saturday at the World Pizza Championship at Bacci Pizzeria in Schiller Park. That’s because this event is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, the governing body of events such as the 4th of July hot dog eating contest at Coney Island, N.Y., which was carried live on ESPN. Take, for instance, competitors like 51-year-old, 225-pounder Frank Wach, who cut his teeth on banana-eating contests back in the ’80s (17 in two minutes!). This Chicagoan’s been pumping up his gut by eating huge meals of cabbage (hey, he doesn’t want to get too heavy), hoping to beat last year’s record of six slices in 15 minutes–did we mention each slice is 1 pound?–set by 105-pound Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, Va. It would be nice to bring the title home, wouldn’t it? 11 a.m. Free. 9607 W. Lawrence Ave. 847-678-2000.
